This summer Maria Maria La Cantina opened in the old Prego space in Hazard Center. Maria Maria is a collaboration between Carlos Santana and Chef Roberto Santibañez.I am a consumer of Mexican food. It would easily be my last meal if I was on Death Row. I struggle with finding sit-down Mexican Restaurants worth a second visit so tend to get my fix at the local taco shop. I was pleasantly surprised that Maria Maria made me take notice. The contemporary menu offers a different twist on old favorites and introduces some new dishes as well. Both the food and the atmosphere are full of flavor. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, the live music is entertaining and the variety on the menu is a welcome change. Our waiter was very attentive and the quality of the food was noted by everyone around the table. Most celebrity backed restaurants try to play up the big name more than the quality of the food. This is not the case with Maria Maria – they balance both beautifully. Welcome Maria Maria to the busy San Diego Restaurant landscape. Continue to keep up the good work! I will be back for sure!
